LIGHT AT THE EDGE OF DARKNESS - Day Six

Light at the Edge of Darkness - Day Six
compiled by Cynthia MacKinnon

For a bit of really out of the ordinary you might want to try “At the Mountains of Lunacy” by Stephen L. Rice. In this delightfully absurd twist of fantasy you find yourself among a group of “plumbers” hired by a king, who is not quite all there himself, to clear the pathway through the Mountains of Lunacy. On the way you meet some extraordinary and interesting characters. To better understand this story you have to realize that they are doing double-duty as mail carriers since nothing in the postal code says postmen have to go to these Mountains and since the plumbers are going anyway...well you guessed it. They draw the duty of being mail carriers themselves. That, however, is probably the least weird thing you'll read in this story. It has monsters, zombies and werewolves, but the real dangers lie deeper than them. Of course I'm not about to give away the story. You know me better than that. Just brace yourself. Everything you've ever learned about, well these different mythological creatures is, shall we say, not quite right. I'm sure you will have a lot of fun reading it, as I did. Just to put your minds at ease, even with the inclusion of some of the most horrible creatures possible the work itself is not horror. - David
